Mercedes chief James Allison says Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification is an “embarrassment” and “significant blow” for the team as the 2023 F1 season draws to a close UEFA
Hamilton finished the US Grand Prix in second, behind race winner Max Verstappen, but was disqualified by the FIA following a technical inspection of the plank underneath his Mercedes car was found to have exceeded the limits in the regulations UEFA
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who finished sixth, was disqualified for the same reason UEFA
Mercedes’ technical director Allison, who earlier in the season came back into the fold on-site in the Mercedes garage after an effective job swap with Mike Elliott, did not mince his words when speaking in the team’s post-race debrief video UEFA
“Of course the disqualification is a significant blow,” he said UEFA
“It’s a miserable feeling UEFA
It hurts and, everybody here feels it UEFA
"Everybody is upset, embarrassed to a degree as well because we absolutely don’t like being on the wrong side of the rules, and just lamenting the lost points UEFA
"Hamilton was set to close to within 19 points of Sergio Perez in the battle for the second in the world championship but, instead, the deficit is now 39 points ahead of the Mexican’s home race in Mexico City this weekend UEFA
However, Allison was also keen to stress the uplift provided by Mercedes’ upgrade in Austin, which brought an improvement in pace for Hamilton and his team-mate George Russell UEFA
Mercedes technical director James Allison says the DSQ was ‘embarrasing’ for the team (Getty Images)"Give it a day or two and that will start to wane and be replaced by the much happier feeling, which is we moved our car forward this weekend and that it’s hard to do that,” he added UEFA
"But we did it and we did it by a decent amount UEFA
And with four races left in the championship, four races where I am pretty sure we will stay on the right side of the skid block rules UEFA
"The initial feeling of hurt, and disappointment and frustration of ourselves will pass to be replaced by the sunny optimism of knowing that the car looked bright on this upgrade package and we’ve got four more races to show what we can do with it UEFA
"Hamilton is a two-time winner at the Mexican Grand Prix but was booed after finishing runner-up to Verstappen last year UEFA

Anthony Joshua has admitted to watching Tyson Fury’s Netflix series, in part to gain an insight into his fellow Briton as a potential opponent UEFA
At Home With The Fury’s, which was released this summer, follows the WBC heavyweight champion and his family in Morecambe, and focuses on the 35-year-old’s failed retirement from UEFA boxing in 2022 UEFA
Fury would ultimately return to the ring in December, beating Derek Chisora for the third time, and he is now due to box former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on 28 October UEFA
The “Gypsy King” is then set to face Oleksandr Usyk at an as-yet-unknown date, also in Saudi, to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion UEFA
“I am on episode six, I’m enjoying it,” Joshua said of At Home With The Fury’s, while speaking to Men’s Health this week UEFA
“I like it UEFA
I like his kids, they’re so funny UEFA
His wife is loyal, so supportive UEFA
“I am partly watching it because it gives me an insight that maybe I can use if we do fight UEFA
[I’ve seen] how you can change his mood UEFA
They say I am mentally weak; he definitely has mental issues UEFA

“It’s like going to war,” the former two-time unified champion said UEFA
Joshua dismissed the suggestion that Fury had made a mistake in filming the series, however, saying: “No, in the heat of a fight, you’re not going to be thinking, ‘Ah, that bit in episode seven of the Netflix series…’ but it does give the psychologists a chance to understand him more UEFA
“We separate the elements of a fight UEFA
You have the fight strategy, then you have psychological warfare, and then you have things like, ‘Shall I wear red?’ to signal danger – all these different things UEFA
So, something like the TV thing won’t help me in the fight, but it might help in the lead-up UEFA
”Joshua, who added that he would be open to doing his own series in the same style, also addressed a scene in At Home With The Fury’s in which a UEFA boxing fan approaches Tyson and says that he would lose to “AJ” UEFA

“I thought Fury handled it really well UEFA
”Fury has said more than once that he wanted to halt the filming of the series at the time UEFA
Joshua last fought in August, stopping Robert Helenius, who stepped in for Dillian Whyte UEFA
Whyte, whom Joshua knocked out in 2015, was pulled from their rematch after failing a drug test, while it was revealed after the new match-up that Helenius had also tested positive for a banned substance before the bout UEFA
